Yes...you read it right!!!
I have had an overwhelming amount of client skin concerns this year at the Benefit counter and after careful Benescanning I can suggest nothing more but NOT to wear makeup. We've analyzed diets, water intake, hygiene and the root of the problem is cosmetics but maybe more so HOW you're applying them and/or removing them. Therefore in an effort to eliminate the problem and acquire a better routine, lets skip a few steps this month; TRUST ME ; - )
You can wear makeup for years and never have an issue but there comes a time when problems can begin to exist. Contrary to popular belief all MUA's don't wear a full face of makeup. It's not that they don't want to its just that sometimes our skin doesn't agree with the everyday regimen of cover-up. MUA'S aren't perfect either.... We go to sleep with makeup on, don't stroke upward and the list continues. However, using expired products, products with comodegenic ingredients, layers or too much product are grounds for clogged pores and a serious disruption within your skin. Baby your skin and always remember less is more.
As a Makeup artist, we represent beautiful and hyperpigmentation, acne, acne scars, blackheads, whiteheads, and enlarged pores are not the epitome of beautiful. I trust and value the opinion of an expert with nearly flawless skin because it demonstrates to me that you not only take the time to correctly apply your makeup but also remove it. Skincare is the most important aspect of your makeup application and if we ever meet, you'll realize the great majority of my questions to you deal with just that. Therefore, your mission, if you choose to accept, is to ditch your foundation or culmination of layers of makeup/cosmetics for the remainder of the month to allow your skin time to breathe, heal, resurface and rejuvenate.
I'm not asking you to go out into the world uncomfortable but explore other options to your application and take better care of your skin. Within my last consultation, I explained to the client to focus on eyes, lips, a light blush/bronzer and undereye concealor making sure to clean her brushes regularly and ONLY wear it when she felt necessary. Sometimes we wear makeup as a mask hiding any and every little thing when sometimes its really not that bad. Let that little pimple heal on its on instead of covering it. Wear an anti-acne serum daily and be sure your moisturizing at night. Get plenty of rest and water and watch your skin do the trick. Treat yourself to a facial but really consult your specialist to ensure you'll have the best service. Never panic or expect rapid changes, it will happen.
Take pictures of your skin's before/after and watch how in a matter of weeks a difference can occur. For an intimate consultation, be sure to schedule an appt with me at the bar. Before I challenge you...here are a few images/descriptions of what you may be encountering, hiding with makeup and want to avoid. Just like life gets stressful, cramped and overwhelming, so does your skin. Be kind and rewind back to the days when you had a flawless complexion...then and only then when you can be committed to cosmetics + skincare, we'll gradually start implementing product. Ready yet???
Blackheads: Deriving its name from oxidation, blackheads are excess oils that turn black on the surface from reflective light or the sun. The only way to clear blackheads is through extractions. Stripping this oil consistently can change your skins clarity and pore size. NEVER use your nails or hair pins to push out the substance, please seek professional assistance.

Whiteheads in contrast are more of a closed comedo. The follicle still contains oil or sebum but because oxygen can’t reach the follicle, it isn’t oxidized and remains white.
Acne scars: Deep red or brown marks surrounding the area where a papule or pustle was present and was incorrectly extracted
Hyperpigmentation: A darkening of the skin caused by sun damage. Acne scarring and mature skin are most afflicted.
Oxygen Wow Hydrating Complex helps boost cellular respiration for a “plumping effect”, protects against environmental stresses and contains vitamins C and E which help prevent signs of aging.
Contradicting that I'm referring makeup??? Not at all...remember, this is a challenge. Your skin will reveal to you what it can and cant handle in a matter of a day but it's up to you to listen. Wearing makeup over 8 hours, redness, itching are all indications that your skin is being pushed to its limits. Chicago's extreme weather alone is enough to incur damage so lets be PROACTIVE instead of reactive.
